Abusua AkomaFoundation

This notice is a starting point written with the site, not legal advice. The Foundation should read it, change what is not true of how it works, and take advice before relying on it.

WHAT WE COLLECT

If you offer help through the form, we keep what you typed: your name, the way you asked to be contacted and the detail of what you offered. If you send a message through the chat bubble, we keep the message, the page you were on, your browser's description of itself and the address your request came from. If you sign up to hear from us, we keep your email address and, if you gave one, your name.

You do not have to give a name or an address to send a message. The form says so.

WHEN YOU SIGN IN

Signing in to the editing area is different from visiting the site, and more is kept. Each sign-in records the address your request came from, your browser's description of itself, the country your connection appears to be in, and the time. Every change you make while signed in is recorded against your account with the same detail.

This is deliberate. Without it the Foundation cannot answer the two questions that matter when something goes wrong: an account holder saying a change was not theirs, and a lawful request for records. It protects the person signed in at least as often as it exposes them — there is otherwise nothing to distinguish somebody else using an account from its owner having done something and forgotten.

If you hold an account, an administrator can also record other ways to reach you — a second address, a phone number — so somebody can get hold of you about the work. Who added each one and when is recorded with it. They are yours: ask and they will be corrected or removed.

This applies only to people the Foundation has given an account. Visiting the site as anybody else records none of it.

WHY

To reply to you, to match an offer of help to a need, and to tell whether forty messages came from one person or from forty people. Nothing is collected to build a profile of you and nothing is sold, shared or passed to anybody outside the Foundation except where the law requires it.

HOW LONG

An offer of support is kept as a record of what was promised, including after it has been fulfilled or withdrawn. Messages are kept while they are being dealt with and for a reasonable period afterwards. If you ask to stop hearing from us we keep a note that you asked, because that is the only reliable way to make sure you are not written to again.

COOKIES

Visiting this site sets no cookies at all. There is no analytics, no advertising, and nothing from another company loads on any page — so there is nothing to ask you to agree to, and no banner asking you to.

Two things are stored, and only when you do something that needs them. Choosing a theme in the footer remembers that choice in your own browser; it never leaves it. Signing in to the editing area sets two cookies: one that identifies your session, which your browser will not let a page read, and one carrying nothing but the fact that you are signed in. Both end when you sign out.

Nothing here follows you to another site, and nothing is shared with anybody for advertising or measurement.

YOUR DETAILS ARE YOURS

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be removed. Use the contact details on the contact page.

This is the wording the site ships with. The Foundation has not replaced it yet.
