About
What we stand for
Share what you have, receive care with dignity, and the four commitments behind it.
Our purpose
Share what you have... or if you are in need, we ensure you receive help and care with dignity.
Abusua Akoma is for the person who has something spare and no idea who needs it, and for the person who needs something and would rather not have to ask a stranger for it. The Foundation stands between those two people and makes the introduction.
Two rules hold the whole thing up. Nothing is bought or sold. And no contribution, however large, buys any say in who receives support.
The second rule matters most to the person asking. It keeps the exchange between equals, so asking here costs nobody their standing.
Our commitments
Four commitments
-
Community support
Practical help, offered and received close to home.
-
Dignity and respect
Asking for help should cost nobody their standing.
-
Support that lasts
Help that leaves someone better placed afterwards.
-
Easier each time
Every time this works, the next offer and the next request come easier.
What we are building
Why it gets easier
Support given well makes the next offer easier to make, and it makes asking easier too. What we want is a community that finds looking after itself more normal over time, rather than a large total raised.
