The Special Adinkra Symbol and Logo
Abusua Akoma
People. Hearts. Community. Humanity.
Four hearts for people and compassion, reaching in every direction. A grid at the centre for family and community. A strong centre for divine guidance, protection and shared responsibility. The Foundation does not claim the spirit behind the work as its own.
Four hearts, one community.
The meanings above are quoted from AdinkraSymbols.org. They were not written for the Foundation and have not been adjusted to suit it. The Abusua Akoma mark is shown apart from the three because it is our own, made in their spirit rather than descended from them.
Why four
Four friends, four hearts
Four friends set up the Foundation to help people, and each of them took it as a calling rather than a project. Looking back over the years, they had come through whatever difficulty they met — most surely when what they were doing was for somebody else.
That is what the mark shows. Four hearts come together and make a community. The same spirit that draws hearts together draws communities together, and the Foundation takes that as divine guidance: to support people, to build, and to bring them together.
